Church Custodian and Event Setup Coordinator Responsibilities and Expectations

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Church Custodian and Event Setup Coordinator. This role is crucial in maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of our church premises as well as the adjacent Good Samaritan Event Center

Part-Time: 15-20 hours per week with the potential for more hours if applicant’s skills allow

For example, if the applicant has landscaping or significant handyman experience, there may be the potential to expand the job

Weekdays, Somewhat Flexible Hours, Approx. 7 Saturdays per year

Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Perform cleaning tasks on a weekly (occasionally twice per week) basis of church, offices, chapel, and classrooms

  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash removal (as needed)

  • Ensure restrooms are well-maintained and stocked with necessary supplies informing the Parish Administrator when re-supply is needed

  • Regularly clean windows, doors, and other fixtures

  • Cleaning is a very important part of this job and the applicant will be evaluated regularly on cleaning performance

  • Handle minor repairs and inform the Parish Administrator about major repairs

  • Perform walk-throughs of exterior and interior of church campus

Event Setup and Breakdown:

  • Arrange tables, chairs, and event equipment according to specific floor plans for various church events and activities in the Good Samaritan Event Center

  • Coordinate with Event Center staff to ensure space is prepared before the event starts

  • Occasionally set up chairs and tables in the church Fellowship Hall for events

  • Maintain an inventory of event supplies and equipment

Building:

  • Monitor the interior and exterior of our church campus

  • Picking up outside trash

  • Light shoveling and salting on entryway into the church when necessary

  • Update sprinkler system timing with seasonal changes

  • Update external light timers

  • Accompany third-party vendors and contractors in showing various parts of the building for repairs and maintenance

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all areas comply with safety standards by walking the building to check water faucets, toilets, and other systems alerting the Parish Administrator of irregularities

  • Maintain secure facilities by following proper opening and closing procedures

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in custodial tasks, maintenance, or a related field preferred

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, lift heavy objects, and stand for periods of time

  • Good organizational skills to manage supplies and schedule tasks efficiently

  • Ability to work independently and receive feedback well

  • Ability to check and respond to emails

  • Friendly, communicative, and comfortable working in a team-oriented church environment

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Additional Skills:

  • Basic handyman skills for minor repairs

  • Preferred Christian who will value and appreciate working in sacred spaces

Benefits:

  • $15-$18/hour depending on experience, history of reliability and skill set

  • Somewhat flexible scheduling to accommodate personal commitments
